The Faculty of Mathematics and Statistics dedicates the academic year 2023-2024 to George EP Box (1919-2013).
George EP Box was born in England in 1919. His excellent communication ability as a teacher was recognized by the prize The Smith Reynolds Teaching Award from the University of Wisconsin, where he was named research professor Vilas in 1980. The importance of the scientific contribution of the Professor Box is supported not only by its role in the philosophy, theory and practice of Statistics but also for the great impact that the latter has had on Engineering, Chemistry, Economics and Environmental Sciences, among other sciences.
