ATHENAtips

Improving the user experience in courses created in ATENEA is key to achieving learning objectives. Reducing problems such as scroll fatigue and improving the accessibility, usability and aesthetics of courses directly contributes to a better student experience. For this reason, we propose the following tricks.

Optimize your course, save time and improve your students' experience with these tricks.

Do you have an endless subject page? This makes navigation difficult.

    • El type: Compacts the material. Uses resources such as carpets (to group files), books (for paginated content) or tabs/drop-down menus (e.g. H5p activity Accordion).
    • El results: A clean home page where the student quickly finds what they are looking for, reducing visual overload from seeing a lot of content at once.
    • El extra tip: If you have a hidden section, prevent your students from viewing the title by choosing the option to hide inactive sections in Course Settings > Course Format.

Including a video doesn't guarantee that they'll watch it (or understand it).

    • El type: Don't upload the video "as is." You can add questions within the video, make it impossible to skip ahead, and collect evidence that they have viewed it and the result of the evaluation in the grades.
    • L'tool: Use the H5P activity Interactive video to convert passive viewing into active learning.

Want to try out a new setup without students seeing it, or share material with another classmate?

    • El type: Create a course in the ATENEA Briefcase and duplicate your subject. You will be able to access it with a student profile to see how everything looks before publishing it in the real course, and take advantage of the contents in the virtual classroom.
