RESEARCHERS

Profiles of researchers and ORCID

There are different initiatives to prevent improperly attributed author publications to another researcher with the same name, or a similar name for the databases indexed by the publications.

To avoid these incidents, we recommend that:

  • Periodically review the information about your authorship that is displayed in your Web of Science Researcher Profile and Scopus Author Profile.
  • Sign your posts always with the same signature and institutional affiliation
  • You create a profile of a researcher at Google Scholar
  • You registered at ORCID and get your unique identifier

Incorporate your ORCID identifiers, Web of Science ResearcherID and Scopus Author ID to DRAC to be visible on your personal page of FUTUR

What is the Web of Science Researcher Profile?

  • It is the Web of Science researcher profile that provides an overview of a researcher's academic work, including publications that are in or outside the Web of Science Core Collection, peer reviews, grant reviews, and editorial work.
  • Each profile is assigned a Web of Science ResearcherID, an identification number for each author that distinguishes them from other researchers with the same name and that is automatically created if you have an indexed publication or a profile created in WoS.

How to create or manage the new Web of Science researcher profile?

  • You can consult the guide to profile review in WoS prepared by the libraries of the UPC or also the guide/course from Clarivate which explains step by step how to create, correct and modify your researcher profile

Do you have more doubts?

  • Consult the page of support from Clarivate to resolve questions about how to access your researcher profile, how to maintain it, how to add publications, how to link it with ORCID...
  • You may also contact Clarivate's technical team for assistance, feedback, and/or for any other reason by creating a ticket of support

For more information and to stay up to date see the different webinars offered by Web of Science a External training or contact info.biblioteques@upc.edu

Periodically check that all your publications are listed in your Web of Science Researcher Profile. We recommend that you generate an alert in the database under your name.
  • Scopus creates an automatic author profile and assigns it a unique identifier, Scopus Author ID, which allows two or more authors with the same name to be disambiguated.
  • The Scopus Author Profile displays all relevant information extracted from indexed publications: Author ID, various forms of the name, publication history, co-authors, citations, and metrics such as index and Altmetrics. You can link the Scopus Author Profile to your ORCID profile.

How to maintain your Author Profile?

Periodically check that all your publications are listed in your Scopus Author Profile. We recommend that you generate an alert in the database under your name.

Google Scholar Citation groups all the posts of a researcher and shows the citations received. To have the service activated, you must have:

This allows you:

  • Have theindex h and the Google h10 index

ORCID is a 16-digit identifier based on ISO 27729: 2012. It allows each researcher to have a unique, persistent and unequivocal author code to distinguish their scientific-technical production from that of other authors.

You must have the ORCID informed at DRAC for:

Create your code for free ORCID. We recommend that you fill in the following fields:

  • Personal Information indicating institutional mail in the "Email" box and in the "Also known as" box the variants of the personal name with which you are referenced in different databases.
  • Employment Indicating the link with the UPC with the official form: Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC).

If you want to incorporate publications into your ORCID record, be aware that:

  • Posts can be uploaded manually or automatically if they have one DOI or if they are included in CrossRef, Europe PubMed Central, Web of Science, SCOPUS or Mendeley among others. To do this, activate the icon "Link works"in the section" Works ".
  • If you want to import publications from WoS or Scopus, consult the sections Web of Science Researcher ProfileScopus Author Profile
  • If you want to import the publications of a BibTeX file (.bib) including Google Scholar, follow them ORCID instructions
  • If you want to automatically or manually import datasets registered in DataCite, follow the steps below. ORCID and DataCite integration instructions.
  • If you have your posts in ORCID and want to export them to your Mendeley profile or vice versa, see the section Connect Mendeley and ORCID.
ORCID allows to link the records of researchers who have this code with other author identification systems such as ResearcherID i Scopus Author Identifier.
