The Faculty of Mathematics and Statistics dedicates the academic year 2022-2023 to Olga Alexandrovna Ladyzhenskaya (1922-2004).
Russian mathematician known for his contributions to the theory of equations in partial derivatives of Mathematical Physics, in particular, of the Fluid Mechanics and of the numerical analysis of its approximations by finite difference method. His is the proof of the existence of infinite time solutions of the Navier-Stoke equationss in the two-dimensional incompressible case. The three-dimensional case, still open, is one of the problems of the millennium.
