The industrial buildings are part of the architectural and constructive heritage that tells us about the Industrial Revolution since the XNUMXth century. At a time of great social and economic change, buildings must respond to new needs and, in environments with powerful industrial development, such as that of Catalonia, architecture and construction leave us examples of immense value, not only for the incorporation of technology and ingenuity but, in some cases, even with a stylistic and aesthetic deployment that still dazzles. A representative case of this technical and artistic quality will be the hydraulic mosaics from the Escofet house. Founded in 1886 by Jaume Escofet i Milà, the company was responsible for the production of cement-moulded pavements that distinguished the interiors of homes thanks to the achievement of a renovating material and, at the same time, of a high ornamental level with designs that incorporated everything from modernist tastes to the new guidelines set by rationalist architecture. And, as other companies in the sector did, it also produced the distinctive pavement signs for the public space of the city of Barcelona.
