Clarivate has released the 2025 edition of the Journal Citation Reports (JCR), coinciding with its 50th anniversary. This annual report provides a detailed overview of the world's most influential academic journals, helping institutions, researchers and publishers assess their reliability and impact. This edition includes data for 2024 from 22.249 journals across 254 categories, with over 6.200 published in open access. In addition, 618 journals receive an impact factor for the first time.
One of the most notable new features this year is the exclusion of citations to and from retracted papers in the calculation of the Journal Impact Factor (JIF). Although these articles will continue to count in the denominator of the JIF, their citations will not affect the numerical value, ensuring greater transparency and integrity in the evaluation of journals.
